Appreciation Day

Not only is it Father’s Day – but it is also Gene Wilder Appreciation Day in Fitzgerald, GA. I think that’s pretty cool. The Mayor proclaimed it so during a reception at our church today. And I’m not talking about the actor Gene Wilder , I’m talking about my dad.

It was his last Sunday at First Baptist, and the church held a big reception for him. It was really special. Most people never get to hear a community tell them how much they are loved until their funeral – when they’re dead and can’t appreciate it. But today, countless people came up to my family to talk about what an impact my mom and dad had on their lives.
It’s back to work tomorrow after being on vacation for a week and a half. I’m not looking forward to it. It’s always hard to get back into the routine. But when work gets bad I will close my eyes and remember the mountains.
